Merry Christmas from all at BOSSback to list

Elf & Safety
In this festive season the singing of carols is a wonderful tradition but with our responsibility to advise on best practice in the office when it comes to “elf and safety” we thought we should offer the following thoughts in case anyone takes them literally:
“On a one horse open sleigh, riding through the snow”
We would urge consideration of using a second horse on your sleigh as a single one may be liable to break down and leave you stranded in extreme conditions. At very least carry with you an appropriate first aid kit and warning triangle and emergency blanket. In an open sleigh the wearing of a helmet and safety belt is mandatory.
“Deck the halls with boughs of holly”
A risk assessment should be carried out to assess the likelihood of staff being injured by falling foliage or by the sharp pointy leaves which could cause flesh wounds or even eye damage. Consider issuing eye protection to those in the halls working in the proximity of the boughs or when gathering them prior to decking.
“Ding dong merrily on high”
Please be conscious of the sound created by dinging and donging and ensure this doesn’t reach extreme and potentially noise polluting levels. Perhaps consider either dinging or donging but not necessarily at the same time or alternatively issue ear defenders to those nearby. On high should mean at altitude or being euphoric rather than in a state of intoxication or substance abuse.
“While shepherds watch their flocks by night”
Ensure that shepherds being asked to work night shifts are not victims of a long hours culture or that by doing so they are not breaching the working time directive. All shepherds should be equipped with the correct workwear including warm clothing and boots, head torches and hi-visibility luminous jackets so that their flocks are always able to see where they are. Crooks are optional but when issued should have been put thorough a criminal background check.
Finally, on behalf of our BOSS Elf and Safety Advisers, have a very safe festive season and with my serious Christmas hat on for a moment please remember all platinum members are entitled to a free annual health check. It’s a cracker of a service!
