BOSS Awards Evening 2017back to list
04 December 2017
The decision to hold this year’s BOSS Awards at the Guoman Tower Hotel in London was a resounding success, with the riverside location offering stunning views of a floodlit Tower Bridge. The view was equally glittering inside the venue, where a sell-out crowd of around 400 came in all their finery to celebrate achievement, success, or perhaps – in these turbulent times - just survival.
BOSS Chairman Geoff Betts welcomed the guests and reported that BOSS had also had a very successful year, with membership growing by as many as 40. Responding to Betts’ vote of thanks for his own hard work during 2017, BOSS CEO Phil Lawson replied that he had been “looking forward to this, my appraisal in front of 400 people” and in turn thanked the BOSS team and the event sponsors for their contributions to the evening’s festivities. Debbie Nice gave a few words to explain the work of the BOSS Business Supplies Charity, explaining that it helped 172 families this year, thanks in great part to funds raised during this event. Accordingly, she then encouraged us all to enter the raffle and join in the ‘silent auction’ for 10 amazing prizes - resulting in enthusiastic and persistent bidding throughout the rest of the evening.
The Awards themselves were hosted by TV presenter Mark Durden-Smith, whose genial and refreshingly selfdeprecating style endeared him to the crowd as he gently teased BOSS, the Awards presenters (whom he had clearly been Googling), the recipients and – most of all – himself: “You are by some considerable margin the
largest audience I have had this century;”. In all, 14 Awards were presented, including to seven winners of the new “Unsung Hero” category and culminating in the “Outstanding Achievement Award” being awarded to Bob Geens, the universally-popular retiring Chairman of Advantia, with the crowd rising to their feet in appreciation.
Overall, the night was a huge success and we really hope that all who attended enjoyed themselves.
