edding Group awarded silver medal by EcoVadis
edding improved its score from the previous year by 12 points, achieving a total of 69 points out of 100. This puts it in the top 15% of companies assessed by EcoVadis. The areas covered by the assessment are the Environment, Ethics, Labour & Human Rights and Sustainable Procurement.
The edding Group performed particularly well in the following areas:
- Returns and recycling of edding products: edding offers a free returns box for used markers and other writing implements. Empty markers are sent for recycling, with the recycled materials fed back into the production of high-quality industrial products.
- Packaging improvements: edding has developed a new FSC-certified cardboard packaging concept for its markers to replace the plastic packaging previously used for many of its sets.
- Energy audits and CO2e calculations: edding Group sites have been certified to ISO 50001 since 2014. The Group has also been calculating its corporate carbon footprint since 2021.
- Renewable energy usage: Over 90% of edding locations now use electricity generated from renewables.
EcoVadis sustainability ratings
First founded in 2007, EcoVadis is now a global provider of business sustainability ratings. Depending on the current status of their sustainability efforts, companies may be awarded a bronze, silver, gold or platinum medal. Over the years, EcoVadis has built up a network of more than 150,000 rated companies and has established an information-sharing platform where buyers and suppliers worldwide can view the sustainability ratings awarded to different companies.
