All about JPS Stationers

Founded in October 2011. Our core values are being part of the local community, understanding local business needs, and an awareness of our own High Street and customer requirements. Sponsorship of local schools, charities, and other organisations including the football team have added to our visibility in the town.

We have faced significant obstacles. First a rent renegotiation, initially joining one dealership, before finding a more suitable dealer, providing support and a website and online store.

After 4 years, which saw improvements in the business, the 400-year-old building needed significant repairs. The 5-week re-build turned into 13 weeks without a permanent home.  Market stalls supported by loyal customers kept the business afloat.

Brexit, and COVID lockdowns could have finished us off.

However, diversification, social media, an appearance on Taskmaster, the support of other shops and good customer relationships has given JPS a significant place as part of our community.

Growth and Achievements

Hugely significant to us was the introduction of Local Interest Products. First greetings cards, then mugs and tea towels. The Smart and Gifted brand gave some important artistic images which could be added to many more products.

Now book authors regularly approach us, as do local artists with cards, prints and original art.

This growth can be attributed to a strong local pride in our town, history and its many creative individuals.

Art Materials have taken a new significance as there are no longer any other Art suppliers for many miles.

Becoming a stockist of Tintin products very early on has brought a continual flow of enthusiasts as well as a new group of young fans.

Greetings Cards have added new business, and comments of “Best Cards in Town” are very pleasing.

Legami erasable pens have caused a massive rekindling of passion for writing and writing materials.

Successful Shortlisting

We are already seeing a wider recognition in Chesham and further afield because of this nomination. This will add credibility to potential business customers, as our name has been linked with the BOSS Federation.

This will help open doors to new customers and national brands and suppliers, as well as ensuring our exclusive place on the High Street.

This nomination has brought a sense of achievement which is reinvigorating for an established business after the many setbacks in recent years and validates our years of hard work and perseverance and the loyal support of our customers.

This nomination is something to share and celebrate for the whole of our town.

Tell us more

JPS Stationers occupies 7 Market Square, in the oldest part of Chesham, in the Chilterns. It is our privilege to follow in the footsteps of several other Stationery suppliers through the centuries.

7 Market Square has been supplying Stationery continually in Chesham for 125 years since 1897!

It is remarkable to think that a stationery business was founded on this same site soon after the “Gem Paperclip” was popularised, and the Waterman capillary feed ink pen was invented.

Continual change and development is the hallmark of our industry and JPS Stationers are determined to continue to be part of this.
